10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's Disease

|

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, over five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease. The debilitating condition causes a gradual decline in memory, thinking and reasoning competence. While this could possibly be misconstrued as a normal part of again, memory problems which seriously affect daily activities and happen more frequently over time can be early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

The following are ten warning signs that your loved one may have Alzheimer’s disease:

  • Memory loss which obstructs your daily life. This includes forgetting both recent and older information and asking for the same information over and over again.
  • Familiar tasks are now challenging to complete. This includes problems managing budget, going to a familiar place or remembering rules of their favorite sports.
  • Problems with words. This includes experiencing issues maintaining a conversation or losing their train of thought in the middle of speaking.
  • Poor judgement. This includes making major financial errors or losing attentiveness towards grooming and hygiene.
  • Confused by time or place. This include losing track of the passage of time, such as changing seasons, and forgetting where they are or how they got there.
  • Misplacing items and not being able to retrace their steps. This includes losing or putting things in unusual places.
  • Removing themselves from social or work activities. This includes the lack of participating in hobbies they normally would enjoy due to their severe memory loss.
  • Difficulty understanding visual images and judging distance. This includes having vision problems which may cause them to make it hard to read and determine spatial relationships.
  • Mood and personality swings. This includes being easily upset, confused, depressed, suspicious, anxious and afraid.
  • Difficulty planning or solving problems. This includes having difficulty to follow a plan or work with numbers.
